Chloe Bennet

Happy Friday! This Famous Friday we’ll highlight American singer and actress Chloe Wang, also known as Chloe Bennet in the professional world. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 18, 1992 to a Chinese father and White mother.

When she was 15, she moved to China and lived with her grandmother in Beijing as she studied Mandarin and pursued a singing career, under her birth name. She had even received an opportunity to become a popstar in China and said yes! Eventually Bennet went back to the US and moved to Los Angeles, California. Bennet’s first on-screen appearance was with TeenNick as a host for their summer dance television program.

As she moved into the Hollywood acting scene, Bennet realized the difficulty she had obtaining roles because of her last name, Wang. This led Chloe to take her father’s first name as her own last name, because she needed work. However, the change in last name does not mean she is ashamed of her heritage. Now, Bennet wants to use her platform to make sure no one has to change their last name just to get a job. She also wants to create more awareness about health struggles, as Chloe herself was diagnosed with endometriosis and has struggled with feeling shame about her disease. Bennet wants to advocate for normalizing the discussion of and wants to create a culture of shamelessness when it comes to health challenges.

Since 2010, Chloe Bennet has been seen in several movies, television series and films. Her resume ranges from Abominable, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., to Nashville, Powerpuff and multiple Marvel Rising episodes.
