Happy Friday! This week we are highlighting singer Miguel Jontel Pimentel, better known simply as Miguel. He is of Mexican American and African American descent. Miguel was born in San Pedro, California on October 23, 1985.

He grew up there and attended and graduated from San Pedro High School. As Miguel grew up, he was exposed to a myriad of music genres. He listened to all different styles of music from Funk, Hip Hop and R&B, to Classic Rock and Jazz.

Throughout high school, Miguel created music; and in 2000, signed his first production deal with the company Drop Squad. Later on he signed a contract with the record label Black Ice, but it dissolved after a few years. Finally in 2010, Miguel released his debut album titled “All I Want is You”. This album did not bring Miguel much success upon initial release, however it became a sleeper hit gaining him popularity as a R&B artist.

In 2013, Miguel won a Grammy for the “Best R&B Song” for his song “Adorn”, from his album “Kaleidoscope Dream”. Five years later, he performed “Remember Me” from the movie Coco with Natalia Lafourcade, at the 2018 Grammys. Look out to see how Miguel continues to lead the way in the genre of R&B!
