Southwest Airlines Accused of Racial Profiling 10-year-old Biracial Girl
Mary MacCarthy, White mother of a biracial daughter who experienced her daughter being accused of racial profiling in the form of human trafficking on a recent airline trip. Denver police officers were called by Southwest employees to meet on the jetway as the mother and daughter disembarked the plane. They were going to Denver to attend the funeral of 10-year-old Moira’s uncle. The mother claims that they were told they were suspicious because the daughter is Biracial, and the mother is White.
A Southwest spokesperson said “We are conducting a review of the situation internally and we will be reaching out to the Customer to address her concerns and offer our apologies for her experience traveling with us. Our Employees undergo robust training on Human Trafficking. Above all, Southwest Airlines prides itself on providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for the millions of Customers who travel with us each year.”
Robust training on Human Trafficking? Welcoming and inclusive environment? It certainly doesn’t sound that way to me. The family has retained an attorney to sue for compensation for the trauma to the grieving Biracial child. I hope they get enough for Southwest Airlines to see the errors of their their ways.
