Teen Project RACE: Panelist Corner
(December 17, 2006)

We asked our panelists why they believe in what Project RACE is trying to accomplish. Here are just a few of their answers:

Kendall told us "America is changing. The number of multiracial people in this country is growing so much. Project RACE is about helping our country keep up with the changes and meeting the needs of people like us."

Justus believes we need a multiracial classification because "Everyone should be able to identify themselves as who they really are. That seems obvious, but unfortunately not everyone sees it that way."

Mia says, "It's so important for teens living in this world to be comfortable with themselves and their background. Teen Project RACE helps teens accept themselves."

Mike feels, "It's good that people are stepping up and supporting multiracial children and teens. I'm not multiracial myself, but I've seen far too many instances where multiracial people are looked down on. It's absolutely necessary for them to be heard."

Nico agrees that, "We need a multiracial classification so that everyone in the world can have a voice, not just people of one race or another."

Check back next month when the TPR Panelists sound off on another question.
